Where is started
It all started in 2003 when I, Susie, a stay-at-home mom, decided to make Christmas gifts with my kids. We thought making candles would be easy – just get some wax and scents, stick a wick in, and voilà, an amazing candle! But we were so wrong. Our first attempts were downright pathetic. That initial failure led to a year-long journey of testing and experimenting with candles. After countless trials, we finally created what we believed was the best candle ever. Soon, friends were coming back for more, and their friends were asking too. Before we knew it, we were receiving fundraiser requests, and that’s how Master’s Hand Candle Company was born.
By 2008
When our kitchen couldn't handle the demand, our candle-making operation moved to the basement. By 2008, with "candle season" approaching, we knew we had outgrown the basement too. The previous year, we had poured over 13,000 candles in just three months, and our projections for the new season were even higher. We needed a bigger space.
In October 2008, we bought the old Nordstrom’s TV & Appliance building just south of Tekamah. Initially, we planned to simply make candles and maybe sell a few in the front. But now, after 11 years, our vision has grown far beyond those initial plans.
From Humble Beginnings
What began as a family project making 10 candles per batch in our kitchen with a makeshift double-boiler in a Presto Pot has turned into something truly special. Our efforts were even recognized by the Omaha World-Herald, which dubbed our creations "A Diva’s Delight." Master’s Hand Candle Company has come a long way from those humble beginnings, and we couldn't be prouder of our journey.
