Creating Lasting Memories

Who We Are & What We Do

At Master’s Hand, we are all about connection — we believe in spreading joy like confetti, whether you’re here with friends, family, or meeting someone new. Our hope is that you leave with that unmistakable “I’m home” feeling — the kind you can’t quite bottle up… though our home-made candles come pretty close.

Even if you can’t swing by our little shop in Tekamah, you can still join the fun online! Every memory you make with us is meant to be shared, and our treats and treasures are ready to gift — available both in-store and online.

Here’s a peek at our story…that wouldn’t be possible without you, by the way.

Our Story

From Kitchen Experiments to Candle Empire: The Story of Master’s Hand Candle Company

2003-2008 - It’s all about candles

From Kitchen Table to Storefront It all started in 2003 with a stay-at-home mom (hi, I’m Susie), a Christmas project gone wrong, and some truly terrible candles. Spoiler alert: our first candles were so bad even the dog avoided them. But failure, as it turns out, can be the best teacher.

A year of experimenting turned this failure into a craft — and Master’s Hand Candle Company was born, one pour at a time. We started in our tiny kitchen, graduated to our basement, and by October 2008 had moved into our very own building!

What began as a candle-making adventure soon grew into a storefront — a space where we could keep experimenting, creating, and spreading joy.

A Decade of Gathering, Growing & Goodies

2008-2018

Over the years, my husband Scott and I (and my family) made many plans to grow and expand…but you know what they say about plans… they grow! We’ve given our little space more makeovers and renovations than I can count on both of my hands and toes. Thinking back about it now we’ve had such silly ideas! But hey, some of them turned out pretty neat (just find out the color of our vintage bicycle turned bathroom sink project) and many say our shop is as one-of-a-kind as our recipes.

At Master’s Hand, we’ve been lucky to bring together a talented team who love sharing their favorite recipes, which meant not only adding a kitchen to bake the goodies, but upgrading our kitchen to serve luncheons for over 50 guests at a time!

Phew…I’m getting hungry just thinking about all the buttery rolls and chocolatey dessert options those diners get to indulge in! Along the way, in our little shop, we’ve dabbled in chocolate-making, whipped up batches of fudge and popcorn, and crafted specialty pies for the holidays that make every season feel a little sweeter.

Oh boy, those first 5–10ish years were a whirlwind...

Classes - Valentine's American High Tea Party

2008-2018(ish) cont...

We just kept adding and adding—like kids in a candy store (except, spoiler alert, eventually there would be actual candy). First big move? We hired a florist and bought Tekamah Floral, which meant we could still show up for our community with homecoming flowers, memorial arrangements, and those last-minute “oops-I-forgot-an-anniversary” bouquets.

Meanwhile, our little shop was transforming. One day it was candles, the next it was a kitchen—suddenly we were serving luncheons, coffee, desserts, and then came Serendipity Chocolates (because who doesn’t need truffles and salted caramels on a Tuesday?).

Oh, and fudge. Because fudge makes everything better!! Somewhere in there, we also launched our very first Spring Fling event, and wouldn’t you know it, it grew bigger every year like a proud little tradition.

We weren’t about to stop at flowers and coffee—oh no, we rolled up our sleeves and dove headfirst into chocolate-making (hi again, Serendipity Chocolates!). Then came pies, fudge, and all sorts of baked goodies you could swing by and pick up fresh from our shop. At some point we thought, “Hey, let’s have a cinnamon roll contest,” and out of that little idea was born our World Famous Cinnamon Rolls—yes, world famous, and I’ll never stop smiling when I say it.

But why stop there? We started hosting in-store classes (because sharing the fun is half the joy), expanded our fudge lineup, stretched out the dining room so we could welcome bigger crowds for luncheons and brunches, and—because life is full of surprises—we even added soap. Yep, soap. Because nothing says “one-stop dream shop” quite like cinnamon rolls in one hand and lavender soap in the other.

Time to Online Shop in Your Comfy Pants

2018-2023

By 2018, Master’s Hand expanded into the online universe to ship our goods across the U.S., and in 2019 and 2020, our sugar cookie decorating kits brought joy (and plenty of frosting and big messes) to over 1,000 homes in over 30 states!! How cool is that?

Now, my former husband Scott (this is still Susie talking), bless his visionary heart—he always knew Master’s Hand was destined for bigger things. He planted our apple orchard, had a hunch I’d get around to planting that cornfield and hosting fall-themed events that brought families together to laugh and share smiles..and he kept me dreaming bigger than I thought possible. I lost my dear Scott in 2019…and it’s hard to express in words how devastating that was to me, my family, and my work family.

But as you say…life goes on and continue to dream we did.

Looking back at the first decade + of Master’s Hand, I can hardly keep track of all the goodies and treasures we packed into those years.

Beyond food, our shelves started filling with girly accessories, clothes, gifts for kids… basically, everything you’d ever want in one magical stop. That’s when it hit me: we weren’t just running a shop anymore—we had built Every Woman’s Dream Shop.

Carrying the Legacy Forward

2024-Current

And because we just can’t help ourselves, we expanded again—this time with a drive-through window (because sometimes you need fudge fast). And coming this fall? We’re hitting the road with our very own food truck, ready to bring all the goodies straight to nearby communities.

Our store in Tekamah, Nebraska, has always been fueled by two things: a community that believes in us and a hardworking team that pours their hearts into every detail.

Without them, we wouldn’t be here. In 2024, I (Susie) passed the baton to Shauna (hi I’m Shauna), a kindred spirit committed to connection, creativity, and community.

Together, we invite you to come for the cinnamon rolls, stay for the company, and leave a little happier than you came.

Thank you all who have loved us through this journey.

Xoxo — Shauna & Susie
